Denmark ends centuries-long tradition with final postal letter delivery
"Today marks a historic turning point in PostNord's history," said CEO Kim Pedersen. "We are ending letter distribution after centuries, but we are opening a new chapter where Danes need us most: in e-commerce, where parcels now outnumber letters."
The transition mirrors a broader societal shift toward digital solutions, including mobile payments, which have reduced demand for physical mail. Following PostNord’s exit, private firm Dao will handle most letter deliveries, with CEO Hans Peter Nissen projecting about 80 million letters will be sent in 2026.
